Our Journey
“At 16, I found myself homeless after enduring years of physical and mental abuse. Though I secured a home at 19, the belief of being ‘broken’ lingered, leading to a masked darkness of failed relationships and substance misuse. Despite trying every solution offered, nothing seemed to stick.
Then, in 2017, I discovered the Three Principles. It sparked a deep feeling within me, a sense of relief. For the first time, I knew that I was going to be okay.
Since then, my life has transformed beyond imagination. Alongside a successful 28-year career in Estate Agency, I volunteered with the homeless, sharing my newfound understanding of thought and mind. One day, a man I spoke to smiled and said, ‘keep spreading the good word.’ In that moment, I realised I could make a difference by sharing what changed my life.”

In September 2018, at the Holywell Centre in Watford, we launched our first Programme for those affected by homelessness. We owe immense gratitude to Quaker Homeless Action for funding our venue, Slough Outreach for their outreach efforts to find beneficiaries, and guidance from Bob Jones (CEO) at Watford and Three Rivers Trust.
This marked the beginning of our journey. Encouraging outcomes from independent research evolved into a collaboration with Innate Health Research and Coventry University. Witnessing beneficiaries’ transformation, and the mentorship from Bob Jones, CEO of Watford & Three Rivers Trust, inspired us to establish A Slice of Happiness as a W3RT project in September 2019.

When the pandemic struck in March 2020, NHS funding allowed us to adjust our services to online delivery, ensuring we could continue supporting the community during unprecedented times. By the time we emerged from lockdown in July 2021, the landscape had shifted, with many individuals struggling with economic challenges, and heightened emotional struggles. Our primary referrals came from Job Centre Plus, leading us to focus on supporting unemployed individuals in Watford, Dacorum, and Three Rivers.
With unwavering support from W3RT, we transitioned into a Community Interest Company (CIC) in August 2024. Our focus is now on working together with Public Health Hertfordshire to expand our service to benefit all Hertfordshire residents, offering ‘early intervention’ mental health support. Grounded in love, compassion, and a commitment to reconnecting our community, we empower individuals to uncover the innate well-being that is always within them.
